Cora Kelly Elementary School for STEM is a great school, but a school in need. Our PTA is dedicated to supporting CK students and teachers!
Cora Kelly School for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math is one amazing public elementary school. Our kids are working so hard, trying to out-do last year's "BEST EVER in the history of ACPS" math scores. They are also focused mightily on reaching grade level or better for reading. And CK kids really shine when they are doing super-cool STEM activities. But with nearly 82% of our students qualifying for free and reduced lunch as an indicator of childhood poverty, and over 40% English Language Learners, there are definitely challenges to learning that our students have to overcome.
What is the CK secret? Our staff and teachers -- the superb women and men who inspire CK kids every day, who come early and stay hours late because they are devoted to helping their students learn.
Where does the CK PTA fit in to all of this? The PTA does what it can to help CK teachers and show our appreciation, and we try as much as possible to support student programs, like afterschool STEM activities and chess club. We have worked hard in recent years to rebuild the playground -- though installation woes have temporarily turned this happy project into a sad one, we wait for the day when we can cut the ribbon on a amazing new playspace. In the meantime, the CK PTA continues to advocate for this great little school, and pitch in wherever we can do good. On May 2nd, help us support CK students and our terrific teachers by giving -- invest TODAY in the doctors, scientists and engineers of TOMORROW. Thanks!
