EWI helps low-income, immigrant and refugee women launch their own businesses. Please consider making a donation to help us reach our goal!
I recently joined the Advisory Board of Empowered Women International, a local non-profit which helps low-income, immigrant and refugee women launch their own businesses.
As a child of immigrants, I feel a personal connection to EWI's mission. I've seen first-hand the untapped potential in our community - women who have a variety of creative passions and dream of starting their own business but don't yet have the hard skills (the financial literacy, etc) or the soft skills (the self-confidence, etc) to launch their own ventures. EWI fills that gap, and its graduates constitute an impressive cohort of women who have not only started their own businesses, but also inspired their family and friends to reach for their own goals in the process.
My parents came from rural India to Ohio more than thirty years ago, and they worked incredibly hard to build a successful life in the U.S., and to provide opportunities for me that they could have only dreamed of as children. For me personally, giving to EWI is paying that gift forward in my community.
More about EWI, and this campaign specifically, is copied below. But I'd be happy to talk with you individually and share more data, or even invite you to come with me to an event or as a volunteer. Thank you so much for your support!
Our goal is to raise $75,000 by December 1st, when we celebrate our 10th Anniversary with a Benefit Event at the Rock Creek Mansion in Bethesda, MD. The funding will directly support our new program - Grow My Business – a 9-month extension of Entrepreneur Training for Success (ETS). Together these two programs create our yearlong Entrepreneur Incubator.
EWI has helped more than 130 women launch their own business.
After participating in our business start-up program (ETS):
- Unemployment among our clients decreased by 34%
- Self-employment increased commensurately by 34%
- 70% of graduates increased their income
- 57% saw their children enroll in college or technical school
- 70% consider themselves to be a better role model to their children and/or family
- Self-esteem increased dramatically
Entrepreneur Training for Success is a maximum-impact 3-month business start-up training course for talented and high-potential immigrant, refugee and low-income women.
Grow My Business provides our entrepreneur graduates and other qualified women’s small businesses with additional business and marketing support services, mentoring, financial management and access to investment capital to achieve sustainable livelihoods.
Thank you for joining with us to empower women and to launch the next decade of women entrepreneurs. We hope we can count on your support. As a 501(c)3 organization, your donation is fully tax deductible.
