PLTI builds civic engagement by ensuring that parents are enabled to use the tools of democracy to advocate for children and engage in the community.

In addition to taking in a 20 week curriculum delivered every Friday night, PLTI participants take on a community project as part of the program (often, it's the first of many projects our alumni lead).

With over 100 graduates, we have a lot of stories to tell, but we've picked just a few

• Did you know every student in Alexandria took home a thermometer and tips for keeping kids healthy this year? The Washington Post wrote a story about PLTI participant Angela Drake's project to reduce the number of days kids miss school by stopping infections from spreading.
• The BRYCE Project (Bright Resilient Youth Committed to Enrichment) brings near-peer mentoring from middle school and high school girls to elementary school girls to build self-esteem and promote community service. LaVon Curtis started the BRYCE Project.
• In last fall's election, two PLTI graduates ran for the Alexandria School Board--Chyrell Bucksell and Bill Campbell. Bill now serves on the Board.

You get the idea--PLTI, through its graduates, is making a difference in Alexandria.
