Rebuilding Together Alexandria works to preserve affordable home ownership and revitalize neighborhoods in the City of Alexandria.
Rebuilding Together Alexandria (formerly Christmas in April) brings volunteers, communities, and resources together to improve the homes and lives of Alexandrians in need. Our vision for Alexandria is a vibrant community where people of all income groups and cultures live in safe and healthy homes.
Since 1986, this non-profit organization has been committed to donating home repairs to the in-need families of our Alexandria, Virginia community. Learn about our history. We are part of a national network of over 200 affiliates, making Rebuilding Together the nation's largest nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and to revitalize neighborhoods by providing home repair services free of charge to those in need.
Rebuilding Together Alexandria is a gift of volunteered time and materials given to repair the homes of homeowners who are physically or financially unable to perform these repairs. Because of the work our volunteers do, physically-challenged recipients become more self-sufficient with greater home mobility, most elderly clients age-in-place for many years beyond the repair year, and families don't have to choose between feeding their children or fixing a leaking roof.
Rebuilding Together Alexandria provides repair services year round, but the emphasis of our volunteer projects still focuses on National Rebuilding Day -- held every year in the month of April, and is the culmination of volunteer rebuilding events leading up to the last weekend of that month throughout communities in the United States. Nearly one thousand volunteers give their time and skills to help local families with home repairs.
