The Giving Circle of Alexandria was founded in 2005 by women who wanted to find a way to make a community investment that would last. Alexandria leaders were united in believing that early investment in children has the biggest future payoff. Since then, over 350 women have come together to invest nearly $400,000 in programs that prepare children to come to kindergarten ready to learn and achieve their full potential.

Past gift recipients include Healthy Families Alexandria, Stop Child Abuse Now, Hopkins House and the Center for Alexandria’s Children.

Our current focus is playgroups because this strategy can reach the most families. Our initial investment in a single playgroup in 2005 has grown to three playgroups reaching over 200 families plus a collaboration with other playgroup providers to coordinate and expand playgroups throughout the City.

In the next three years, we want to:

• reach young children in need not currently being served,
• double the number of children we're reaching now and
• boost the impact of parenting skills and kindergarten readiness programs.
